TURN AZ BLUE!
|
| Our Mission |
- We intend to bring together activists, bloggers, and voters to work toward progressive political change in Arizona.
- By sharing information and keeping each other informed, we can coordinate efforts to promote progressive causes and candidates.
- We hope to provide a forum for local Democratic candidates to present their positions on issues of concern to Arizonans.
- Anyone who shares our goals is welcome to join and contribute.
- The age of open source politics is here. Lobbyists and special interests have run Arizona for too long.
- Let's take back Arizona from the big money special interests and the right wing crazies!

According to the Arizona Republic, a new poll by Republican pollster Margaret Kenski suggests that the state's top elected Democrat, Attorney General Terry Goddard, would beat all current Republican potential candidates for governor. The poll found that Goddard leads accidental Gov. Jan Brewer by 16 points, Arizona Regent John Munger by 18 points, and appointed Secretary of State Ken Bennett by 15 points. The closest Republican to Goddard was state Treasurer Dean Martin, who he leads by 6.5%.
Also, Rodney Glassman, a councilman for the city of Tucson has formed an exploratory committee for Senate in 2010. Glassman told the Arizona Republic, "...we need to provide Arizonans with the opportunity for a new voice, someone who is committed to bringing resources back to the state of Arizona." He holds five degrees from the University of Arizona, including a PhD and law degree, and is a member of the United States Air Force JAG reserves. His exploratory committee is not accepting donations over $20 because he wants to have a "broad base of support." Stop by his Website and give him what you can - as long as it is no more than $20.
Things are looking up for Arizona Democrats in 2010!

Everyone's favorite political dirtbag, Nathan Sproul, may be under the gun once again, for a little double dealing. Here is a little background on Nathan: http://baltimorechro...
and http://www.dailykos....
This time he may be working against candidates in his own party!
Sproul is working for Len Munsil's Campaign in the AZ Governor's race. I guess Len is not concerned with staffing his campaign with upstanding citizens.
GOP gubernatorial candidate Mike Harris is having none of it. This article was buried in the AZ Republican this Friday:
Governor candidate wants probe of state GOP
Associated Press
Aug. 25, 2006 12:00 AM
Republican gubernatorial candidate Mike Harris called Thursday for an independent audit of the state Republican Party's finances because of "possible financial double dealing" involving work done by a political consultant for the state GOP and a rival gubernatorial candidate.
The East Valley Tribune reported Aug. 19 that the party was paying Nathan Sproul and other political operatives to register new Republican voters.
Sproul also is helping manage the gubernatorial campaign of Len Munsil, one of four Republicans running in the Sept. 12 primary.

Nothing in the East Valley Tribune so far.

The AZ Democratic party has filed complaints against Republican gubernatorial candidate Len Munsil for getting creative with his accounting. Apparently, his money situation is not healthy and they are trying to skirt the rules to make up for it.
Maybe he was getting ethics advice from Nathan Sproul! You can read about HIS shenanigans here:
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2004/10/13/32821/029
Here is the press item showing how Munsil is playing around with paid consultants and their compensation;
State Democrats charging Munsil campaign violations
By Howard Fischer
CAPITOL MEDIA SERVICES
PHOENIX — The state Democratic Party is charging the gubernatorial campaign of Republican Len Munsil with violating campaign finance laws.
Party Chairman David Waid said finance reports filed by Munsil showed he had spent virtually all the funds he had by late April. And Munsil did not get his public financing until
May 5.
Those reports also show the campaign paid consultant Vernon Parker's company $2,000 in March and $2,500 in May, but nothing in April. Similarly, consultant Nathan Sproul got $5,400 in February, $5,000 in March, $1,000 in April and $6,000 in May.
Waid, in a complaint to the Citizens Clean Elections Commission, said that suggests one of two possibilities: The consultants gave away services in April when Munsil was out of money, which would be an illegal in-kind contribution, or they performed services in April knowing they would be paid later, when the public financing came through in May. That would violate laws prohibiting candidates from incurring debt when they don't have money.
Neither Sproul nor Parker would respond to questions about billing practices. Instead Parker, who is spokesman for the campaign, issued a written statement accusing incumbent Janet Napolitano — who did not file the complaint — of "filing frivolous complaints against us instead of debating the issues."
Let's keep an eye on this bunch!
Sproul is going to mess up sooner or later; it's just his nature!
